Software
This page contains a list of software I utilise on both Windows and Linux.
- LyX – A crossplatform frontend to LaTeX. I use this for my essays and notes. Excellent alternative to Word.
- TortoiseSVN – A Windows Explorer extension for Subversion. I use this to synchronize my university work across multiple computers and to back it up to my server/Amazon S3.
- VLC- The best media player on any platform.
- Foobar2000 – Highly customisable music player. My primary player on Windows.
- MPD + Sonata/ncmpcpp – A music server and 2 frontends for Linux.
- Firefox – Still the most flexible browser and my primary browser on Windows.
- Chromium – Faster than Firefox but I have privacy concerns with it, so I only use it on Linux (much of the Google tracking stuff is stripped out in the Linux packages)
- Transmission – Good crossplatform BitTorrent client.
- Pidgin – Extensible, cross platform, multi-protocol chat program.
- Microsoft Security Essentials – Good free anti-virus software, no need to buy anti-virus software for Windows now in my opinion.
